Yarra Capital appoints Tim Toohey

Yarra Capital Management today announced the appointment of Tim Toohey as Head of Macro and Strategy. Tim joins from Ellerston Capital, where he was Chief Economist of the Ellerston Global Macro team.

Tim previously spent 15 years as Chief Economist and Head of Macro Strategy Australia and New Zealand at Goldman Sachs, during which time he was named Australia’s number one economist in the Greenwich survey for 13 consecutive years from 2003-2016.

At Yarra Capital Management, Tim will work closely with the Fixed Income and Equities teams, advising on both the outlook for financial markets and asset allocation.

Biography – Tim Toohey

With more than 25 years’ industry experience, Tim Toohey is one of Australia’s most highly regarded economists.

Tim began his career as an Economist with the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research, before moving to ANZ Banking Group where he spent two years working as a Macroeconomist.

He joined JBWere in 2002 (prior to its merger with Goldman Sachs in 2003) as a Senior Economist, before being named Chief Economist in 2003 and Chief Economist and Head of Macro Strategy Australia and New Zealand in 2010. After a 15 year career with Goldman Sachs, Tim joined Ellerston Capital in March 2017 as Chief Economist within the Global Macro Team.

Tim has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Melbourne (Honours in Economics) and a Masters of Economics also from The University of Melbourne.
